Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

“Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society.
Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night.”
Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

The Wind Chime

One of my new favorite things to do is to sit my porch swing and wait for the wind to blow so I can listen to my new wind chime.  I love the sound of wind chimes when the breeze gently blows through them.  As I was swinging one day and admiring the beautiful song that my wind chime was creating, I had a thought.  Hanging there, a wind chime has the potential to create a beautiful sound.  A pleasing song is created when the wind blows through it.  But the sound isn’t beautiful when someone pushes the chimes to create the noise.  Nor would the sound ever be created if the chime was left in the box or if the band was left around the chimes after it was hung.

The same is true for us and the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit can easily be described as the wind that blows through us and creates in us a beautiful song.  When we accept Jesus into our hearts and are born again we receive the Holy Spirit.  Galatians 5:22-23 tells us “The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”  These fruits can be considered our song.  When we are living by and walking in the Holy Spirit these fruits will show themselves in our lives.  We can’t take it upon ourselves to make our own song.  When we do so it just becomes a clanging noise.  We need to allow the Spirit to blow through our lives and create in us the song God desires for us to sing.  We can do this by living close to God and by growing our relationship with Him.  We must remain open to live in the potential He has for our lives.  We can’t try to control the Spirit as it blows through us.  If we put our focus on Christ, the Spirit will naturally blow through us and begin to bring out our God-given potential.

I encourage you to read Romans 8.  It helps give an understanding to what the Holy Spirit is, how to receive it, and it ends by telling us that nothing can separate us from the love of God!  Are you allowing the Spirit to create in you a beautiful song?  When you hear a wind chime, let it be a reminder of the Holy Spirit!

“The wind blows where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going.  So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  John 3:8
