As I sat quietly this morning I could hear the rain, drop by drop, falling on the roof. Each rain drop individual and meant for a purpose. Some were meant to water a certain tree, others to water the wild flowers and some to help a garden’s plants bear fruit. Some drops were meant for a seemingly bigger, but no less important purpose of becoming a part of a stream, a river, a pond or a lake. With purposes of all different kinds, together they nourish our earth and help it to grow.
What if the rain drops had a choice of whether or not to fall? I wonder how many of them would feel they were too small and insignificant to make a difference. What if they had a choice where to fall? Would any of them feel the farmer’s garden was important enough to be a part of? Or, wanting to be a part of something they felt was bigger and better, would most of them want to fall into the red wood forest? Would any of them want to water the wildflowers in a hidden meadow, tucked deep in the heart of a forest, that no earthly eye has ever seen? And what about the raging river - a place where many drops are needed but if given a choice, I’m sure few would chose to go. If the rain drops didn’t fall according to God’s will and plan what a mess we would have of flooded and dry land.
We need to know that just like the rain drops, we each have a unique and individual purpose! You are never too small or insignificant to make a difference! Our earthly eyes see some purposes more important that others but they are each the same from the eyes in the Kingdom. Do what God has called you to do and know that you are an important part of a bigger, higher, eternal plan!
