Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

“Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society.
Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night.”
Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

The Singing of Many Birds

As I was praying this morning I noticed that I was joined with the singing of many birds.  Their songs stood out to me so I just sat there quietly before the Lord and listened to His creation.  Some were close, some were further away, some were loud, and some more soft.  There were so many and each had a unique song.  I thought of the verse in a song that says “every creature unique in the song that it sings.”

Each of our “songs” are as unique and individual as the birds.  Sometimes we tend to look at those around us and strive to be what they are and we miss what God has for us.  God has a plan for you.  An individual, unique, defining purpose for your life!  It is so important that you spend time with Him in order to find what that purpose is.

The birds sing to the sun.  As soon as it begins to rise, they start chirping.  They don’t sing toward the darkness.   What is your “song” directed toward?  The darkness of this world or the Son?  Think about it: what is your attention being given to, where are your thoughts, what are your words saying?  We should be reflecting the song of the Son.

The birds sing first thing.  In the morning it sounds as though every bird in creation is in chorus.  Throughout the day, as they go about doing things that birds do, you can still hear their chirping.  Are we singing His praises first thing when we rise?  Are we taking time before our busy day begins to thank God for His blessings?  Once our day gets under way are we continually praising Him as we go along?  We should praise God for the life we have and the blessings He gives us before anything else we do.  We should also continue to praise Him through out the day.  Praising God shouldn’t just be something we schedule in to our agenda.

I looked up synonyms for the word “praise” and some of them I found interesting: acclaim, exaltation, cry, recommendation, bless, admire, advocate, celebrate, recognition, thanks, applaud, distinguish, cheer, proclaim, celebration, hymn, tribute, glorify, reverence, appreciate.  Think about each one of these words and what they mean to you in terms of praising our Father.

I encourage you to take a look at your “praise life”.  If your “praise life” seems to be in the right place, take time to think about how you could improve it.  Go back to the synonyms I had given.  I encourage you to pick one that you hadn’t previously thought of and try it.  (For example:  We can easily say “thank you God for…”  but are you truly appreciating what you are thanking God for?  You could try recommending God to a non-believer, this is a form of praise!)

If you don’t seem to have a “praise life“, begin by thanking God for anything you can think of that you are thankful for.  Ask Him to show you the everyday blessings in your life.  As you take the initiative to begin praising your Father, He will show you and give you things to praise Him for!

Sing your song to God in the way that is unique and individual to you!

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!” Psalm 113:3

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”  Isaiah 6:3

“Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of his wondrous works!”  1 Chronicles 16:9

“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.”  Isaiah 12:5

“My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed.”  Psalm 71:23

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!”  Psalm 95:1
