Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

“Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society.
Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night.”
Phil. 2:15-16 MSG

Do What You Do

Have you ever had something you were really good at but never thought anyone noticed? Has God called you to do something and you feel like you’re still waiting for the next step? I think we have all felt this way. Everyone has a “strong point”, something you excel in, a talent, a gift, a calling, and at one time or another we have felt unnoticed.

I’ve been doing a study on David. I’m only a few weeks into it but I’ve learned about David in the past. I really enjoy reading about him because he reminds me so much of myself and I believe there‘s a little David in all of us!

David was anointed when he was only 15 years old and at the time he was a small shepard boy. He was the least likely of all his brothers to be anointed as king, at least in humanly terms. He was overlooked by many, including his own father. But his Almighty Father saw David for who he really was, a man who within his small stature carried the biggest heart. David had a heart for God.

“For the Lord see not as man sees; for men look on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

Although David was anointed when he was 15, he would not begin his reign in Judah until the age of 30. Talk about patiently waiting on God and His timing! God may call you, but it may take some time to get there. Most of us want to say “God, let’s go, I’m ready, you called me, here I am!”. It’s great to have enthusiasm, but be watchful that you aren’t trying to move things along by your own way. God knows your heart and he knows you, he knows what you can handle and where you need more experience. Be patient and allow God to develop you in the area that he has called you. If you try to push things along, you step out of God’s will and take control yourself. This will only cause you to miss the ultimate blessings he has in store for you.

“…I have seen a son of Jesse who plays skillfully, a valiant man, a man of war, prudent in speech and eloquent, an attractive person, and the Lord is with him.” 1 Samuel 16:18

I love this verse! After David was anointed, but before he would reign as king, what was he doing? He was just doing what he knew. He would shepard his sheep, play his lyre, and seek God. When Saul was looking for someone to get rid of his evil spirits, he requested a man who played skillfully on the lyre. One of Saul’s servants remembered David! David simply did was he was good at and someone saw him, went away, and when needed, remembered David!

“…and David came to Saul and served him. Saul became very fond of him, and he became his armor-bearer.” 1 Samuel 16:21

God gave David favor with Saul. This led right into the story of David & Goliath (1 Samuel 17). It was the beginning stages of David becoming king. David followed God and God faithfully put him right where he needed to be at the moment he needed to be there in order to eventually fulfill his calling.

If we, like David, will seek God and do what He blesses us to do, God will allow the right people to see it and also remember it at the time that is right!

“We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
